The 59 neck model (SH-1n) is one of our most popular pickups because it's so versatile. Like its sibling in bridge position is the neck 59 in the spirit of the original P.A.F. Humbucker from the 50's, with sweet sustain and a warm, full sound that still has a clear attack. We've made a few refinements to modernize the design a bit and make it more adaptable to different styles. The high end is slightly boosted for improved pickup clarity, and the mids are slightly hollowed out for an open, smooth tone that's great for preserving the clarity of individual notes in a chord. The? 59 neck was born to the? 59 bridge to accompany, but countless players pair it with a high-performance bridge humbucker, such as a JB or Custom. The Jazz Model neck humbucker uses an alnico 5 bar magnet and a special coil wind for an articulate, glassy treble response that balances very well with its full, but tight low end. The scooped midrange gives this pickup a smooth tonal character all its own. Originally designed as the matching neck pickup for the JB Model bridge pickup, the Jazz is an incredibly versatile humbucker that will work for almost any style of music. The low end is full and powerful, the highs are crisp and detailed and there’s an upper-midrange bump that adds crunch and chunk to heavy chords but translates to a singing, vocal-like quality when you play single notes or solos. Meanwhile the hot output pushes your amp just that little bit harder for more sustain and harmonics.
Use with a 500k volume pot for great high end cut, or try a 250k pot to sweeten the tone and soften for smoother styles. It pairs particularly well with the jazz it 59 neck pickups, and some players even like to use a JB in the neck position for an extra fat solo tone.
